Finally Symbol identity for Indian rupee is introduced.a blend of the Devanagri ‘Ra’ and Roman ‘R’ — joining elite currencies like the US dollar, euro, British pound and Japanese yen in having a distinct identity.The new symbol, designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D Udaya Kumar, was approved by the cabinet.

Kumar’s entry was chosen from 3,000 designs competing for the currency symbol. He will get an award of Rs 2.5 lakh.
How to type Indian Rupee Symbol:
Unlike other currency symbols like the Dollar or the Euro, you can’t however type the Rupee symbol using the standard Roman keyboard yet as the Government of India is yet to issue a formal request to the Unicode Consortium to assign a unique (alt) code to this new symbol.
